Vocational Services
Advanced Computers -
provides an understanding of advanced computing operating systems.
Offenders will acquire knowledge and competence in the use of popular applications such as Word, Access, Excel and PowerPoint and the wherewithal to increase personal efficiency and produce appropriately formatted documents to professional standards.
Air
Conditioning
and
Heating -
provides instruction and hands on training in heating and air conditioning systems.
Offenders will acquire the skills and techniques required for entry-level employment in the residential and light commercial
heating
, ventilating
and
air
conditioning
(HVAC) field.
Concepts include
Diagnostics, Technology, Building systems, Basic electricity, Industrial controls and Customer service
AutoCAD -
provides
offenders with the principles of technical and architectural drafting and design concepts. Areas of study include sketching, dimensioning and annotation, construction and engineering documentation, 3D modeling, problem solving, critiquing, and team building.
Auto Mechanics/Auto Shop/Automotive Technology -
provides instruction and hands on training in auto mechanics skills.
Offenders will acquire knowledge
in the operational and scientific nature of the automotive component systems including fuel, intake, exhaust, ignition, lubrication, braking, heating and cooling, electrical, and suspension systems.
Braille I, II, III and IV -
provides instruction and principles of the Braille cell - six possible dot positions arranged in two columns. Offenders learn how to write it on the Brailler and how to transcribe words, sentences and eventually sections of documents on the computer.
Computers -
provides an introductory survey of computers and their role in the modern world. The emphasis is on computer terminology, hardware and software. Opportunities for hands-on experience using micro-computer applications will be included. Software may include spreadsheets, word processing and database management systems.
Construction -
provides instruction and hands-on experience in trades associated with construction and building maintenance.
Provides offenders the opportunity to develop technical skills that are used throughout the construction industry.
Areas of study include safety, blueprint reading, carpentry and rough framing, exterior finishing applications, surveying, site development, scaffolding, electrical, plumbing, concrete, and masonry.
Cosmetology -
designed to prepare offenders for the Nevada State Board of Cosmetology Licensing Exam and to meet the 1800-hour requirement for licensure. Individuals can receive a master license that allows them to choose many career options such as a nail technician, aesthetician, or hair stylist. Areas of study include theory and clinical instruction in professional ethics, sanitation, human anatomy, facials, skin care, makeup application, manicures, pedicures, acrylic nails, hair cutting, hair coloring, permanent waving, chemical relaxing, and all phases of hair care.
Culinary -
provides instruction and hands-on experience in a commercial kitchen,
offenders are introduced to the principles and techniques of commercial food production. Areas of study include basic skills in food handling, food and nutritional science, equipment technology, cooking methods, kitchen safety, sanitation procedures, and employment skills in an environment that models industry standards.
Entrepreneurship
-
provides instruction in
basic business math, balance sheet, financial statement preparation, using the financial statements, financial analysis, preparing budgets, financing alternatives and business valuation
Financial Literacy -
provides instruction to understand and effectively apply various financial skills, including personal financial management, budgeting, and investing.
Forklift Operator -
provides forklift training that is effective and OSHA-compliant. Trainers employ
National Assessment of The Occupational Safety and Health Workforce
(
NIOSH) training and coaching methods in a non-lecture format to develop safer forklift operators.
Heavy Equipment Operator -
provides the practical knowledge and hands-on experience necessary to safely operate the following types of new model, OSHA compliant equipment: Bulldozer, Loader Backhoe, Excavator, Mini Excavator and Track Loader.
Offenders will
enhance their learning of machine control & work site safety awareness with
a fully controllable, virtual simulator
.
Horticulture -
designed to give the offender skills in landscaping, greenhouse operations and turf management.
Janitorial -
offers practical hand-on experience in floor care, cleaning and general light maintenance.
Multi-Craft Core Curriculum (MC3) -
a comprehensive pre-apprenticeship training curriculum. It was developed and approved by the Building Trades National Apprenticeship and Training Committee in 2008. The Multi-Craft Core Curriculum includes

RESPECT -
provides instruction in family and consumer sciences to successfully prepare offenders returning to the community.
Offenders will develop skills for balancing home, work, and life by studying how to be successful with life management, wealth management, family development, home management, health and fitness, and leadership and community participation.
Screen Printer -
provides offenders with skills such as offset printing, reproduction, type preparation and layout, graphic photography, lithography, binding, and other graphic arts related to the printing industry.
ServSafe Food Handler/Manager -
provides instruction about food safety.
Topics include
key food safety principles: ensuring proper personal hygiene, preventing cross-contamination, controlling time and temperature when handling food, proper cleaning and sanitizing, the causes and effects of major food borne illnesses and ensuring proper vermin control.
This
training program was developed by the National Restaurant Association (
NRA
).
Small Engine Repair/Technology -
provides instruction and hands-on experience in small engine repair. Training is an intensive study of the operation, maintenance, and repair of small gasoline engines. Instructional topics include principles of operation of internal combustion engines, repair and service procedures, and disassembly, overhaul, and reassembly. Instruction may also include the operation of two-cycle and four-cycle engines commonly found on lawn mowers, garden tractors, snow blowers, rotary tillers, chainsaws, and other equipment.
Web Design -
provides offenders with concepts to develop and maintain websites.
Areas of study include content development, back-end programming, design and layout theories, and user interface.
Welding -
provides offenders with instruction in the industry standard welding practices. Areas of study include print reading, measurement, properties of metals, thermal cutting, codes, inspections, and certifications.
Hands-on instruction is emphasized with additional theory presented in textbook and workbook format.
